How Can You Tell It’s Time To Bleed a Radiator?

By February 28, 2020No Comments

Every six months or so, you may need to bleed the radiators in your home. Air can find its way into the system and get trapped. This creates gaps in the circulating water, potentially causing cold spots and making certain rooms cooler than others. Another sign it’s time to bleed the system is that you hear a high-pitched squeal.

How To Bleed a Home Radiator

Bleeding a radiator is easy and quick. Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Turn off the heat briefly.
  2. Gently open the radiator’s bleed valve. You may need a special key for this.
  3. Place a cup of water or cloth underneath to catch any water.
  4. Once the air has escaped, close the valve.

You don’t need to worry about calling a plumber to handle bleeding. This task falls into the category of easy home maintenance jobs you can do yourself. If you take care of it every six months, you can prevent heating issues.
